Jimmy Kimmel’s Emotional Revelation About His Baby Boy’s Health Crisis
Last night, Jimmy Kimmel opened up about on his newborn son's health in his monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
While holding back tears, Jimmy revealed that his wife gave birth to William John aka Billy on April 21. He said, "Six pushes, he was out. He appeared to be a healthy, normal baby until about three hours after he was born.”
Doctors discovered that William had a heart defects — a pulmonary valve completely was blocked and there was a hole in the wall separating the left and right sides of the heart. As a result, Billy needed open-heart surgery to repair “one of the two defects in his heart.”
Jimmy said, "The operation was a success. It was the longest three hours of my life, but it was a success. They didn't do everything; he'll have to have another open-heart surgery in three to six months to close those holes, but they wanted to wait until he's bigger. And then he'll have a third, hopefully noninvasive procedure, sometime maybe in his early teens, to replace the valve he has now.” Watch.
Along with sharing pictures of his adorable son after the surgery, Jimmy joked, "Poor kid. Not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face."
Kimmel also made sure to show his appreciation to the medical staff at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, and even mentioned frenemy Matt Damon, saying, "Even that [expletive] Matt Damon sent flowers.”
Before wrapping up his monologue, he called attention to President Trump's proposed cuts to the National Institutes of Health, which he feels would have a negative impact on children. He praised Congress for not going along with Trump, and increasing "funding by $2 billion.” He emphasized, "If your baby is going to die and it doesn't have to, it shouldn't matter how much money you make. I think that's something that whether you're a Republican or a Democrat or something else — we all agree on that, right?"
After his revelation, Kimmel announced that he was planning to miss the rest of this week's shows to be with his family, with guest hosts filling in for him. The show was off the air last week.
Following the show, Kimmel's wife Molly posted a precious pic of him with Billy, tweeting, "I am thankful to love and be loved by these two brave guys. Both criers."
