‘Young Sheldon’ Producers on Why Season 7 Is ‘Right Time’ to End Series
"Young Sheldon" has been the #1 comedy on television since "The Big Bang Theory" ended in 2019!
Just hours before the seventh season premiered on Thursday, the executive producers and cast, including executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro and Chuck Lorre, and then series stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Emily Osment, Montana Jordan, Iain Armitage, Annie Potts and Raegan Revord, spoke to press as part of the TCA winter panel on the set at Warner Bros.
One storyline of the final season is Georgie and Mandy’s wedding. When asked if there have been any special RSVPs, Emily, who plays Mandy, said, “I wore corduroys for it, if that means anything to you.”
She also expressed how grateful she was for her role and character, saying, “I was not aware of how grateful I'd be to be sitting here a couple years after I was offered just one episode on ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 5… I am so grateful to see the, you know, the arc of Mandy sort of becoming such a staunch feminist, standing up for herself, not wanting to take the Cooper name, wanting to be her own person, you know? Not forcing Georgie to get married right away, just wanting to not lose her career, wanting to be herself, and also raise her baby.”
Montana opened up on his character Georgie as well, saying, “I think he's realized that he's had to step up a little bit and had to grow up a whole lot, you know, having a kid at a young age. And I'm happy to see it. You know, I'm happy to see him actually step up and do what he needs to do in order to be a good dad.”
The producers also addressed the show ending when asked if it was due to Iain Armitage growing up.
Steve Holland explained, “You know, we talked a lot about it going into the season, Chuck and Steven and I before... There's certain things that we know happened in Sheldon's life when he's 14, as the character is this season, and we sort of started talking about the future of the show and what it would look like, and it just felt like this was the right time for that story to come to an end, and with those big events happening and knowing where Sheldon — what goes at 14. You know, we know he goes off to Cal Tech at 14. It just felt like the right time to end the show, and to end it strong and while it was still on top.”
Iain, smiling, added, “Can we just leave it with I'm tall, cool, and look like Jim? Why do you got to add more?”
CBS previously announced the one-hour series finale of "Young Sheldon" will air Thursday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
