Why Sharon Osbourne Went Public with Her Suicide Attempt
Earlier this month, “The Talk” host Sharon Osbourne, 68, stunned the world with a revelation that she tried to take her life four years ago.
Now, Sharon is opening up about her decision to go public, telling “Extra's” Terri Seymour, “I have to be honest — I was kind of, like, embarrassed to tell people or to discuss it for a long, long time… Just recently, so many people are committing suicide that I've known… and it's like, 'Come on, we've got to get this out in the open here.'”
She went on, “People look at me and go, 'You're so strong.' Yeah, sometimes, but a lot of the times I'm not, and I can only take so much. It's like a bottle of Coca-Cola you shake me up and I will explode.”
Osbourne said she took some time to heal. “I was off about two, two and a half months from the show and I was in treatment and therapy.
She wants fans to know she is in a good place these days, sharing, “I've been good for a while now, really good… I saw two girls that I was in treatment with… Their mother had committed suicide and then… their lives went into a tailspin and they had tried to commit suicide.”
Her conversation with the two girls was her wake-up call, and it was her family whose well-being she prioritized. She explained, “I just thought, 'My God, I can't leave that behind…' So I could never think about doing that again — ever.”
The wife of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne also spoke out about the loss of another icon, Eddie Van Halen, to cancer. She said, “Oh, we knew Eddie wasn't well, but we didn't know how not well he was… and it still came as a huge shock… 'cause he's only 65 and just a great guy, so talented… It's just a tragic loss, a really tragic loss.”
On a lighter note, the proud mom discussed her daughter Kelly's stunning weight-loss transformation. While it has been reported that Kelly has lost at least 85 lbs., Sharon isn't sure about the exact number. She pointed out, “I always had a thing with my girls — I never talk about weight, ever! Never! I just keep telling her, 'You look amazing.'”
