'Welcome to the Pand-Emmys!' Jimmy Kimmel & Jennifer Aniston Bring the Fire (Literally)
It's the Emmys like we've never seen them before!
The show kicked off like any other year, with host Jimmy Kimmel greeting a room filled with stars. In reality, however, it was just old footage from past shows!
Kimmel said, "Hello, and welcome to the Pand-Emmys! It's great to finally see people again. Thank you for risking everything to be here, thank me for risking everything to be here. You know what they say, you can't have a virus without a host."
Jimmy soon revealed the real studio audience, a room of cardboard cut-outs.
"Of course I'm here all alone, of course we don't have an audience!" Kimmel said. "This isn't a MAGA rally, it's the Emmys. Instead of the live audience, we took a page from baseball and did cardboard cut-outs of the nominees."
There was one flesh-and-blood star hidden in the virtual crowd... Jason Bateman! The "Ozark" star tried to blend in with the phony attendees, but was exposed by Jimmy! When he found out that in order to stay he would have to laugh at Jimmy's jokes, Bateman took off, leaving a cardboard cut-out of himself as a teen. "I'm out," he told Kimmel.
The actual audience was watching via Zoom, and Kimmel unveiled a wall of nominees.
The Emmys did have a live presenter on site for the first category… Jennifer Aniston!
Unfortunately, they had to “burn off” all the germs on the presenters' card. The paper went up in flames and had to be dropped into a garbage can, and Jen had to grab a fire extinguisher to put it out!
