Patti Labelle & Gladys Knight Dish on Their 'Verzuz' Battle, Plus: What They’ve Learned During the Pandemic
Right after their epic “Verzuz” battle, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight talked to “Extra's” Cheslie Kryst!
The two soul legends, who have countless hits and six Grammys between them, went head to head on the popular digital series with their music. There were even some surprises, like their good friend Dionne Warwick, who joined the legends on “Superwoman.” Patti told Cheslie, “When she came on, it was a shock and a good surprise.”
Michelle Obama tuned in, as did Oprah and Mariah Carey!
Patti said, “I saw that Michelle was watching and I heard Oprah was going to watch… Just great to have all those wonderfuls watching us.” Gladys agreed, saying, “Oh, my goodness.” Patti added, “We feel blessed.”
Sharing what the time apart from others during COVID-19 has taught them, Patti said, “It's taught me not to be so selfish in purchasing shoes, clothes… Ain't got nowhere to go. In past times, before COVID, I bought too many things and I've learned not to do that ever again.”
Gladys added, “I have learned more about the spirit that we should have. It's not a joke, it's not something to play with. We are talking about human beings and human life.”
The pair mentioned that there are 150 combined years between them. Gladys said with a smile, “Wait, we weren't telling the truth!” And Patti added, “I have no secrets,” while Gladys insisted, “Me neither.”
Patti shared, “We wake up in the morning, hopefully our faces didn't crack… and put some makeup on.” Gladys agreed, saying, “There you go!”
