Mary-Kate Olsen Officially Files for Divorce from Olivier Sarkozy
Actress and fashion mogul Mary-Kate Olsen, 33, has officially filed for divorce from husband Oliver Sarkozy, 50.
Page Six reports Olsen filed the court papers in New York on Monday, which was when the New York City courts reopened after closing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this month, Olsen requested an emergency order to speed up her divorce filing. She reportedly signed a petition for divorce in April, but was told that filings were not being accepted by New York courts due to the pandemic.
According to TMZ, Olsen's attorneys previously received an email from Sarkozy giving her a May 18 deadline to remove her belongings from their NYC apartment.
Olsen claimed she was being forced out, since Sarkozy terminated the lease without her knowledge.
In the court papers, Mary-Kate asked for a May 30 deadline due to pandemic guidelines imposed on the city. She argues that she could only protect her belongings if she filed a divorce petition, which would prevent him from disposing of them.
Olsen is also requesting that their prenuptial agreement be enforced.
They were last seen together in November, with her twin sister Ashley and Louis Eisner.
According to multiple sources, the pair didn't see eye-to-eye on children. A source told People magazine, “A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed. Olivier has two grown kids and doesn't want more. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn't.”
Their different lifestyles also may have caused friction in the relationship. An insider said, “Olivier is a party boy and a big spender. He loves the high life.”
Another pal added, “Mary-Kate prefers to be quiet and alone and doing the things she likes. She's not that interested in socializing — she likes small gatherings with select people. They ended up being apart quite a bit.”
The pair tied the knot in the winter of 2015 in an intimate ceremony in NYC.
In happier times, Olsen told Net-a-Porter's The Edit, "I have a husband [Olivier Sarkozy], two step-kids, and a life; I have to go home and cook dinner. I ride horses on the weekends. You find the thing that helps you relax and if you don't have it, you have to look for it. Or you get burned out and then you're not productive.”
Mary-Kate and Olivier started dating in 2012, a year after his divorce from Charlotte Bernard was finalized.
