Chris Meloni to Reprise Role as Det. Elliot Stabler in ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Spinoff
It looks like Chris Meloni just confirmed rumors that he is returning as Detective Elliot Stabler for a new “Law & Order: SVU” spinoff!
Meloni posted “He's back” on Facebook, while linking to a Deadline story about the new series.
According to trade reports, Stabler is out of retirement and will be heading up the NYPD organized-crime unit. Fans can only hope that means Meloni will share some screen time with former co-star Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson.
The pair worked side-by-side for 12 seasons before Stabler retired. Afterward, Benson rose through the ranks to become the captain.
Meloni's show, a Dick Wolf production, was reportedly picked up for 13 episodes. No word yet on a premiere date.
After leaving “SVU,” Chris went on to star in several projects, including “True Blood,” “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” and “Happy.”
