Is Selena Gomez’s New Song About Justin Bieber?
On Tuesday night, Selena Gomez released her new single “Lose You to Love Me,” which had everyone talking!
In the track, Gomez sings about being in a toxic relationship that has made her stronger.
Without naming anyone, she opens up the song, “You promised the world and I fell for it / I put you first and you adored it / Set fires to my forest / And you let it burn / Sang off-key in my chorus / 'Cause it wasn't yours."
Many speculate the song is about her ex, Justin Bieber, who she dated off and on for years.
Seemingly referencing his 2015 album “Purpose,” Gomez sings, “Set fire to my purpose / And I let it burn / You got off in the hurtin' / When I wasn't yours.”
She also noted that she was wearing “rose-colored glasses” during the relationship, adding, “I saw the signs and I ignored it.”
Selena has never before publicly commented on Bieber's relationship with his wife Hailey Baldwin, but she seemingly shares her thoughts in the song, singing, “In two months you replaced us like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it in the thick of healing.”
Bieber started dating Baldwin just months after his split with Gomez last year. They became engaged in July and legally tied the knot at a courthouse ceremony in NYC two months later.

View StoryHailey and Justin had a more formal wedding celebration last month. The ceremony was attended by Kendall Jenner, Usher, Camila Morrone, Joan Smalls, and Dan + Shay.
Gomez was directed in the “Lose You to Love Me” music video by Sophie Muller, who has worked with Beyoncé, Dido, Coldplay, Maroon 5, No Doubt, Gwen Stefani and Shakira. The simplistic video was shot entirely on the new iPhone 11 Pro.
After the song's release, Selena tweeted, “Thank you all for standing by my side through the highs and lows. I couldn't do it without you all and I can't wait to start my next adventure with you. [heart emoji] Lose You To Love Me is out now."
Gomez's BFF Taylor Swift showed her approval of the song, writing on her Instagram Story, "This song is a perfect expression of healing and my absolute favorite song she's put out yet."
Gomez hinted at her new music, telling Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” a few months ago, “I have to do, like, a few finishing things with it, but I'm just relieved. It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album, and it's just because I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that [it was like] how was I going to capture that and how was I actually going to feel good about what I was saying? So, I kept going and I'm relieved now."
