Granger Smith’s Youngest Son Dies in ‘Tragic Accident’
UPDATE: A rep for Granger Smith confirmed to People that River “died in a tragic drowning accident at home.”
Country singer Granger Smith, 39, is mourning the sudden death of his son River, 3.

On Thursday, Granger broke the “unthinkable”news on social media. He tweeted, “We've lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor's best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes… Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”
Granger remembered his youngest son, writing, “Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts.”
Smith revealed that his son's organs were donated “so other children will be given a second chance at life.”
In lieu of flowers or gifts, Granger is asking that donations be made to Dell Children's Medical Center in River's name.
Smith ended his statement, stressing, “Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”
Granger's wife Amber Emily Smith also shared the same statement on Instagram, adding a pic of herself with Riv.

River just turned 3 in May. At the time, Granger's wife Amber Emily Smith wrote, “Someone is 3 today! Happy birthday to our fearless, tractor and Lightening McQueen loving, red-headed, dare devil! He keeps us laughing, definitely keeps me on my toes, gives the best hugs and is as sweet as honey! We love our little Riv 💚🍩🧁 🚗🚜 🎉.”
Granger and Amber, who tied the knot in 2010, are also the parents of son Lincoln Monarch, 5, and daughter London, 7.

Granger is in the middle of touring, but it is unknown if he'll take some time off.
Smith is known for his songs “Backroad Song,” “If the Boot Fits,” and “Happens Like That.”
