The “DWTS” alum popped the question to the actress, and they announced the happy news on social media Monday.
Hinchliffe posted a photo on Instagram with his bride-to-be as she showed off her sparkling engagement ring. He wrote in the caption, “Wait, what!? I thought they said 'til DEBT do us part'!”
Dalton, 29, followed up with a tweet of the same photo, writing, “Just got served a life sentence.”
The special moment came as a shock to the Canadian actress, she told “Page Six”, “I just started sobbing and ugly-crying. I honestly don't even know what he said.” She went on to say, “I just remember he was on his knee and said, 'Will you marry me?' And I think I said yes.”
The pair met in an acting class and went to their high school prom together. In 2017, Hinchcliffe told “WTHR” that he broke up with his girlfriend a few days before the event and was in need of a date. “I asked Becky to come with me as a friend because I would never have had the guts to ask her as a date.” He went on to say, “Out of my league, so that was a foolish proposition.”
In 2016, Dalton told “The Post” that unfortunately the pair didn't keep in contact after high school. In fact, it was 12 years before they got back in touch.
Hinchcliffe pursued a career in Indy race car driving while Dalton pursued a career in acting. They reconnected after James' near fatal crash at the Indy 500 in 2015, when she reached out to offer support.
After his recovery, the race car driver revealed that he would be on Season 23 of “Dancing with the Stars.” Hinchcliffe finished as a runner-up alongside his professional dancing partner Sharna Burgess.
