Horrifying! ‘America’s Got Talent’ Trapeze Act Goes Terribly Wrong
Last night, many held their breath at the end of a dangerous trapeze act on “America's Got Talent," and now "Extra" has the couple's reaction to the scary incident.
During the Judge Cuts round, Mary Ellen Wolfe-Nielsen and Tyce Nielsen, a married couple working as Duo Transcend, performed a gravity-defying acrobatics that went smoothly until she slipped through his grip and fell to the floor below!
As the audience gasped, Tyce, who is legally blind, asked, “Is she okay?”
Fortunately, Mary was able to get back on her feet after landing on a safety pad. Before Mary asked the judges to attempt the act again, the couple reunited onstage, where they hugged and kissed.
In response to a second attempt, judge Mel B said, “No, it's fine! It's fine. I don't think they should try that. This is not 'America's Got Perfection' — it's 'America's Got Talent.' No one can do this. I mean, it's okay!”
Simon Cowell added, “I don't think there's ever been a singer on any one of our competitions who's been note-perfect. It doesn't make them not amazing; it makes them human. Although the consequences of this are slightly worse than falling off-key, whereas you nearly broke your neck. And the fact that you're nearly blind makes this incredible.”
The pair were able to move on to the next round despite their horrifying mishap. Watch the entire act here!
On Wednesday, “Extra” spoke with Mary Ellen and Tyce, who are touring Europe with Cirque du Soleil. Mary Ellen said she is fine, reporting, “I had a little bruise, but other than that, everything was okay.” She went on to explain what she felt the moment the drop occurred. “I was more just shook that it happened, realizing that millions were gonna see it.” Tyce explained, “She dropped at least 14 feet.”
As for how they are feeling today, Mary Ellen said, "We are feeling mixed emotions because obviously saw the mistake that we made, but what's really amazing is seeing all the support that we are getting from people… People saying they actually like seeing people aren't perfect. Mistakes happen, but you just have to keep going.”
The couple added that their son Jaxx, who watched their "AGT" audition, goes to the gym with them when they rehearse and practice daily. Tyce said, “I don't know how much he actually comprehended... but he's great.” Mary Ellen added, “I think it was more my mom that was scared.”
As they move on to the next round, are they thinking about trying the stunt again? Tyce said, “Yes… I think we will.” Mary Ellen agreed, saying, "We'd like another chance to redeem that drop.”
