Portia de Rossi Talks What's Next After Acting
On Thursday, “Extra's” Renee Bargh caught up with Portia de Rossi on the red carpet Thursday for the Season 5 premiere of the Netflix comedy “Arrested Development,” just days after revealing that she has retired from acting.
Earlier this week, Portia broke the surprising news on wife Ellen DeGeneres' talk show. When asked if this was really the end of her acting career, Portia laughed, saying, “Well, I don't think too many people believe it. I just felt like I was approaching 45 and I thought, 'What else is there for me to tackle and attempt?,' because I kind of knew what acting would look like for me.”
The actress continued, “I just wanted to try something different, so I started an art publishing company called General Public and I'm really excited going to the office every day.”
Will she make an exception and return to acting for future episodes of “Arrested Development,” on which she plays Lindsay Bluth-Fünke? Portia teased, “Maybe. Well, I have to. Look, 'Arrested' has always been the highlight of my career just because it's so brilliant and I love [series creator Mitch [Hurwitz]. I would do anything for Mitch and everybody, so yeah, I'll come back."
As for the next chapter of her life, de Rossi revealed, “It's really interesting for me to learn business and work with artists, and I've always loved painting and art. It's exciting and it's new, different, and my wife supports me, which is everything. It's a start-up, so many hours, so I'm always home late. But she's very supportive, so I'm lucky.”
Season 5 of "Arrested Development" premieres May 29 on Netflix.
