'Extra' Exclusive: Taraji P. Henson Details Fiancé’s Surprise Proposal

On Monday, “Extra” caught up with the newly engaged Taraji P. Henson at the Fox Upfront presentation.

The day before, the “Empire” star took to Instagram to reveal that her boyfriend of three years, Kelvin Hayden, had popped the question. She told us, “I feel happy. Very, very happy. And since I posted I've been getting such amazing love. It's a good feeling.”

As for how the surprise proposal went down, Taraji shared, “He took me to the restaurant where we had our first date in Chicago… and we walked by the table we sat at and I said, 'Babe, you remember?'... And then I sat at the table and the waitress was extremely nice. I know people know Cookie, but she was just like overboard nice!... It was almost like she wanted to tell me something... He said, 'My friend Ronald, it's his birthday… he's going to have a get-together in this little party room.”

“I go in the room and there's a violinist… as I'm looking around the room… and the people started coming in... I started connecting the dots, and I turn around and he's already on his knee.” Taraji continued, “I just lost it!”

Did she have any idea? She admitted, “I'm nosy! I already knew he was going to Dubai to get my ring. I knew, I just didn't know when he was going to pop the question.”

Even her son was in on the surprise! She said, “He knew, everyone knew but me!... To be quite honest, I allowed it to be a surprise, because I could have found out if I wanted to!”

Taraji dished on her dream wedding, saying, “I don't want stress. I just want it to be happy and free, easy and fun.”
