Oscar-Winning Singer Ryan Bingham Going for Gold Again
Ryan Bingham is back in the awards race!
In 2010, the singer/songwriter took home an Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe and Critics' Choice Award for “The Weary Kind,” an original song he co-penned with T Bone Burnett for “Crazy Heart.”
Now he's going for gold again with the haunting ballad “How Shall a Sparrow Fly.” Bingham wrote, composed and performed the single for the new movie “Hostiles.”
The song was written to complement the tone of the movie, which takes place in 1892. The film follows a legendary Army captain (Christian Bale) who reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.
Bingham even performs the song in the film as Sergeant Malloy, using nothing but his voice.
Ryan sat down with longtime supporter, “Extra's” Senior Music Correspondent Adam Weissler, and shared the fascinating story behind the song's composition. Watch!
Check out an exclusive performance below of the Oscar contender, “How Shall a Sparrow Fly.”
You can download the single now, wait until the digital soundtrack is available on Jan. 5, or pick up a physical copy of the soundtrack on Jan. 9.
