Selena Gomez Gets New Kidney from Best Friend
Singer Selena Gomez has been given a new lease on life, thanks to her BFF Francia Raisa.

The Blast was the first to report that Selena underwent a kidney transplant in June. Since none of her family members were a match, Francia stepped in and donated one of her kidneys to Selena.
Gomez has been fighting complications from lupus, a disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.

View StoryOn Thursday, Selena confirmed the surgery and explained why she was “laying low for part of the summer.” She said, "I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.”
Gomez also expressed her gratitude for Francia, saying, "She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
The 25-year-old also posted a pic of her tummy after the surgery.
Selena appears to be recovering smoothly; she is currently working on a Woody Allen movie in New York. After news broke of her transplant, she was seen flashing a smile on the set of the film.
