'Glee' Star Charice Pempengco Changes Name to Jake Zyrus
Charice Pempengco, who shot to fame on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “Glee,” has a new name.
The singer will now go by Jake Zyrus.
The star came out as a lesbian in 2013 and addressed gender transition rumors on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” in 2014. Jake said at the time, “I'm not going to go through that stage where I change everything. I'll cut my hair and wear boy clothes and everything, but that's all.”
Zyrus went on to say, “I knew when I was 5. Then, when I was 10, I was like, 'Oh, that's it, I'm gay.'"
Pempengco's Twitter profile was updated Sunday, and all previous tweets were deleted. The 25-year-old posted, “My first tweet as Jake. Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I'm so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon.”
