Tom Cruise’s Mom Dead at 80
Tom Cruise's mom Mary Lee South has died at the age of 80.
People magazine reports that South, who struggled with health issues in the past few years, passed away in her sleep last week. Over the weekend, Tom and his sisters Lee Ann DeVette, 57, Cass Mapother, 55, and Marian Henry, 52, all attended a memorial service for their late mother at a Church of Scientology.
Nearly two years before South's death, “Extra's” AJ Calloway caught up with Tom as he was promoting “Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation” in Vienna. During the interview, he revealed his mom's reaction to his stunts in the movie, telling AJ, "I showed her — we had some cut footage, and I showed her that, and she was like, she's had it her whole life with me. My mother's southern, and she's like, 'Oh, my Lord… oh, Lordy, oh, oh, sweet Jesus… oh, sweet Jesus! Tom is that, honey... honey... is that you? Is that you? Oh, my Lord... I'm so glad you didn't tell me about this one.'”
Cruise also took his mom as his date to the 2009 Golden Globes, and “Extra's” Mario Lopez was able to chat with them on the red carpet.
