Randy Travis’ First TV Interview Since Debilitating Stroke
Last night, country music superstar Randy Travis and his wife Mary Davis attended "1 Night. 1 Place. 1 Time: A Heroes and Friends Tribute to Randy Travis," where he was honored by some of country's biggest names.
“Extra” special correspondent Alecia Davis was with the legend in his first TV interview since a stroke three years ago. Randy is learning to talk, sing and live again, all with the help of rehab and his wife.
When Alecia asked how he was feeling after praising him for his strength in surviving the stroke, Randy replied, “Good.”
Mary, by Randy's side every step of his recovery, shared, “He was such a fighter, such a warrior. He was such an inspiration to me. The days I felt bad, I just looked at him and he had a million-dollar smile, and I was like, 'We're gonna keep doing this.'”
Randy glowed while listening to his wife's kind words.
Alecia asked Randy, “Did you know how much Mary loved you?” Randy answered, “Yep.”
The recovery process is not easy, but it's something this couple continues to do together. Mary commented, “It's tedious. You don't see huge improvements overnight or in a week's time. It's incremental. I call it giant baby steps.”
One of those steps was when the Grammy winner bravely stood and sang for his Country Music Hall of Fame induction. Mary gushed, “That hope is something to just look forward to. It's been like Christmas.”
