Michelle Obama Wows, Sarah Silverman Booed and More from the DNC
All eyes were on the Democratic National Convention on Monday as First Lady Michelle Obama stumped for Hillary Clinton, Sarah Silverman called out #BernieOrBust delegates for being “ridiculous,” Eva Longoria delivered a powerful personal speech, and more.
Here are all the must-see moments!
Michelle Obama Champions Hillary Clinton
Watch Mrs. Obama's speech as she calls Hillary a “true public servant,” while reminding the crowd that Clinton “didn't get angry or disillusioned” when she lost to President Obama.
The First Lady, who wore a cobalt blue silk crepe cap sleeve A-Line dress by Christian Siriano, continued, "What I admire most about Hillary is that she never buckles under pressure, she never takes the easy way out, and Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in their life. And when I think about the type of president I want for my girls and all our children, that's what I want. I want someone with the proven strength to persevere, someone who knows this job and takes it seriously, someone who knows that the issues the president faces are not black-and-white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters."
Sarah Silverman Gets Booed
Comedian Sarah Silverman took the stage and announced that she was going to vote for Hillary with gusto, while still being inspired by Bernie. When she followed up by saying, “to the Bernie or bust people, you're being ridiculous,” some in the crowd started booing. Watch!
Eva Longoria Takes Aim at Donald Trump
Actress Eva Longoria called out Donald Trump for his comments about Mexican immigrants, a disabled reporter, and women.
“So when Donald Trump calls us criminals and rapists, he's insulting American families,” she said. “My father is not a criminal or rapist, in fact, he's a United States veteran. When Trump cruelly mocked a disabled reporter, he was also mocking my special-needs sister Lisa and many like her. When he said that a wife who works is a very dangerous thing, he not only insulted me, he insulted my mother, who worked as a special-education teacher for 40 years and raised four children while being a wife.”
Susan Sarandon Was Having the Worst Time
While Obama, Silverman and Longoria were passionate about supporting Clinton, Susan Sarandon sat in the audience shaking her head. Journalist Ian McKenna posted a GIF of the moment with the caption, “Susan Sarandon is having literally the worst time at the #DemConvention”. The actress confirmed his observation by retweeting him with the message, “Accurate.”
