Comic-Con Reveal: Rihanna Will Check In to 'Bates Motel'
At an A&E panel at Comic-Con in San Diego on Friday, it was confirmed that Rihanna will fill a vacancy in "Bates Motel" as Marion Crane, recreating the role made famous by Janet Leigh in the 1960 film "Psycho."
In a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the hit show's executive producers said, "We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate."
In case you're worrying that Rihanna has a hard act to follow, producers reassured fans of the original movie, saying, "We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don't want to do is create the impression that we're redoing the movie because we're not at all. She's a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way."
Following last season's grisly close — Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore, murdered his mom, played by Vera Farmiga — it was also announced that the show's fifth season will be its last.
