Emma Stone Pays Tribute to Billie Jean King at Trailblazer Honors Awards
Emma Stone, who is playing tennis legend Billie Jean King in the upcoming film "Battle of the Sexes," gave a heartfelt tribute — and an award — to King at this year's Logo/VH1 Trailblazer Honors event.
Stone took the stage to praise King's optimism and hard work in becoming both a sports icon and an inspiration to LGBT people as one of the first openly lesbian pro athletes.
In the clip, Emma recalls playing tennis with King as a complete novice, but feeling safe after receiving King's advice: "Forget the bad one. Focus on the next ball." Emma says this motto is what carried King through a period when being an out lesbian in sports was frowned upon. "Billie Jean served to serve — and that's what makes her a true trailblazer."
