Dr. Phil on How a Star Like Prince Could Fall Into Drug Troubles
He never treated Prince, who is rumored to have been addicted to painkillers, but Dr. Phil has a few opinions about stars and drugs.
Speaking about 1980s icons like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston, Dr. Phil said, it worries him that stars get “surrounded by sycophants that just simply won't raise their hand” out of fear of being fired.
He continued, “It is an auto-exacerbating system. You get a bunch of yes-men around them and if they don't tell them what they want to hear, they get replaced by someone who will and it become so insular that there is no voice of reason there.”
Dr. Phil is also looking for a professional to step in and do the right thing. “You've got to have licensed professionals that are writing those prescriptions, pharmacies who are issuing them. Come on, you can't tell me that people don't know what is going on, somebody with responsibility has to know that they are overprescribing and somebody has to step up and say we are not going to do that.”
Federal officials told NBC that prescription Percocet was found at Prince's home. Toxicology reports are forthcoming.
