Céline Dion’s First Words Since Réne Angélil's Death
Singer Céline Dion has spoken out for the first time since her husband Réne Angélil and brother Daniel passed away from cancer.
While at Réne's public viewing at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal she told People, "The support we've received has been such a blessing.”
That support includes thousands of mourners who attended the viewing, waiting in the cold for hours to pay their respects to Angélil and share their condolences with Céline.
Judith Picard, a mourner who waited for three hours outside the church, told People, "Céline is Quebec. She is an ambassador for Quebec. And this was her great love, and we had to be there for her. They're inseparable—they're like one person, and now she lost half of herself. So I feel for her. And he was such a great man, and he was such a great soul. We had to celebrate his life coming here today.”
Céline's 15-year-old son Réne-Charles and Dion's step-sons Patrick and Jean-Pierre Angélil also attended the open-casket service.
Réne's funeral will take place at the Notre-Dame Basilica on Friday.
