Harrison Ford Jokes About Breaking His Leg on ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

The legendary actor suffered a leg injury while shooting the movie, but was able to make a joke about the incident. When Mario asked him about breaking his leg, Ford corrected, “When THEY broke my leg!” Despite the chaos, he was able call his own ambulance. “Well, I knew a helicopter pilot that flew for National Health and they were talking about driving back in a car through London in traffic and, 'Could somebody get me my phone? 'Cause I can't get up, 'cause I'm pinned under this door,' and so they brought me my phone and I called the guy whose number was in my phone.”

Aside from his mishap, Harrison said it didn't take much convincing to bring him back to the "Star Wars” franchise. “It wasn't a matter of getting me to play Han Solo, it was… George (Lucas) called me on the phone one day and said, 'Would you be interested if we did another couple or three? Would you be interested?' and I said, 'Yeah, in theory — is there a script?' 'Not quite yet.' And six months later, there's a script to read and a director. J.J. [Abrams] took the script and through this process.”

Ford also revealed that he has already seen the movie, and proclaimed it “good.”

While he is happy to be back as Han Solo, Ford once told George Lucas to kill off the character — in “Return of the Jedi.” He quipped, “A long time ago, in a place far, far away, it seemed like a good idea at the time. We were at the end of the first three planned films and I never anticipated there might be another. What value could I add to the last film? This is a character who had held himself at an ironic distance from all of the rest of belief systems of the films, and if he might sacrifice himself to the greater good, I thought that would be a good utility for the character and to add some gravitas… My idea was rejected.”

On a lighter note, Harrison had a clever response when asked why Chewbacca looks like he never ages, saying, “He's had some work done…”
