Laverne Cox on Posing Nude for Allure: 'I'm a Black Transgender Woman, I Felt This Could Be Powerful'
“Orange is the New Black” star Laverne Cox had some reservations about posing nude for Allure's May issue.

“I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again,” she told the magazine. “But I'm a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent. Black women are not often told that we're beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we're beautiful.”
She continued, “Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about her body might be inspiring to some folks. There's a beauty in the things we think are imperfect. It sounds cliché, but it's true.”
Cox was one of several women to strip for the magazine. “The Returned” star Sandrine Holt revealed, “I'm French, so I'm quite comfortable being nude.”

“Sleepy Hollow's” Nicole Beharie admitted, “I just turned 30, and I was nervous (about posing)… but I wanted to celebrate and accept my body in an artistic way.”

“Furious 7” star Jordana Brewster said, “My legs used to be my least favorite part, but now they're really strong and muscular.”

“Vikings” actress Katheryn Winnick confessed, “I called my girlfriends and asked them to pose naked and show me what positions look good. I have a few crazy photos on my phone.”
