'Furious 7' Cruises Into First Place at the Box Office
It was a “Fast and Furious” takeover at the box office this weekend as “Furious 7” nabbed the No. 1 spot at $143.6 million!
Some sites are predicting that the film could make $150 to $160 million domestically once Sunday's numbers are added.
“Furious 7's” early success -- including $300 million in worldwide ticket sales -- is no surprise. “Fast and Furious 6” debuted at No. 1 in 2013 with $97 million, and the entire franchise has reportedly earned $2.4 billion worldwide since 2001.
Fans may be showing even more love for the film and the cast in honor of Paul Walker, who died in a tragic car crash in November 2013.
Universal's “Furious 7” was up against DreamWorks Animation's latest children's film, “Home,” which took second place at $27 million, and the Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart comedy "Get Hard," which took third with $12.9 million.
