Robin Thicke Opens Up About Reasons Behind His Split with Paula Patton
Why did Robin Thicke and Paula Patton really split up? It might not be what you think.
Thicke stopped by New York's Hot 97 radio station on Tuesday to talk about the split and his new “take me back” album, “Paula.”
The crooner revealed, "[Cheating] is not why we're apart. We're apart because we just couldn't be together anymore for a while. There's a hundred different reasons, there isn't just one. There's a long list… I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself."
It turns out he hasn't seen his estranged wife in four months, and that she hasn't listened to the album yet. "She's only heard a few songs. I don't think she wants to hear it right now. I can't speak for her, but I think space is an important part of any healing process."
For Robin, the record is “exactly what happens when you lose the love of your life and you're trying to figure it out in your head. How am I going to move on and get through it all? We just weren't happy together anymore and I still had so much I wanted to apologize for, and things I wanted to take responsibility for, so that's pretty much what the album's about."
Thicke is definitely hopeful. "If you've been together that long, you kinda became adults together instead of being adults and then meeting. But maybe a year or two off, we'll become our own people without each other and then it will be meant to be."
On Wednesday he stopped by “Good Morning America” for another promotional interview, admitting to Lara Spencer, “I actually have no idea what I'm doing. I'm actually flying by the seat of my pants on this one. I just wanted to make something artistic out of a very difficult period.”
