Tracey Edmonds and Charissa Thompson Named Co-Hosts of 'Extra' Alongside Host Mario Lopez
“Extra” is having a very good week, and it's just getting better.
The second longest-running entertainment news magazine in syndication just won the first ever Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment News Program, and now the show has announced that two new co-hosts are joining host Mario Lopez for Season 21.
Tracey Edmonds and Charissa Thompson have signed multi-year deals to join “Extra” as co-hosts alongside Lopez, who has been with the program since 2007.
Edmonds is an award-winning producer and CEO of the production company Edmonds Entertainment, whose latest project is the hit series “Deion's Family Playbook” on OWN. Thompson is currently the co-host of “FOX Sports Live” on FOX Sports 1.
The new co-hosts will debut on “Extra” when its 21st season premieres on Sept. 8.
Edmonds said, “I am thrilled to join 'Extra' and am so excited about being a part of such a dynamic and progressive entertainment show. I look forward to working with Mario, Charissa, Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey and her whole team. 'Extra' already set the bar high, but I look forward to contributing new ideas and exploring new horizons on the show as I enter the next chapter of my career.”
Thompson added, “Working for 'Extra' has always been a dream job for me. I met with Lisa G a few years ago and she didn't hire me -- actually, I'm not sure if she remembered me. I made it a goal of mine to work hard and get back in front of her to knock her socks off, and I guess I made a better second impression. Now everything has come full circle. I am so excited to be joining 'Extra' and can't wait to get started with Mario and Tracey and the whole team.”
The announcement was made today by Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, Senior Executive Producer of “Extra.” Gregorisch-Dempsey said, “Tracey Edmonds is one of the most accomplished television forces in Hollywood. She is already a star with A-list relationships. Charissa Thompson is one of the quickest, sharpest and best interviewers on sports TV and was born to juggle the demands of fast-paced television. From the moment I put Tracey and Charissa on stage with Mario, their chemistry was off the charts. They are generous with each other, they complement Mario, and together they will be an unstoppable team that will take 'Extra' into the future.”
“Extra” is broadcast from Universal Studios Hollywood, in front of the iconic globe. “Extra” is the only show in the genre to bring the electricity of a live audience to its coverage of breaking entertainment news, celebrity interviews and pop culture, allowing millions of viewers to be part of an “entertainment event.” Every day, A-list names in film, television, music and sports come to “Extra” to break news and interact with their fans.
