'The Voice' Finale Recap: Adam Declares Christina Grimmie the Winner
Christina Grimmie is the “The Voice” Season 6 winner… according to coach Adam Levine. Of course, it’s up to America -- not Adam -- to decide who takes the crown Tuesday night in the heated competition between the top three; Christina, Josh Kaufman and Jake Worthington.
Monday night saw contestants bringing back their audition songs, teaming with their coaches and singing fresh covers. At this point in the competition, Shakira no longer has a singer in the competition.
Christina kicked off the show with her audition song, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” She went on to team up with Adam for Goyte’s “Somebody That You Used to Know,” but it was her final performance of Elvis Presley’s “Fools Rush In” that sealed the deal for Levine.
“I think this is yours,” he told her. “I think you are going to win this show.”
Grimmie said if Adam’s prediction comes true it would “mean the world” to her. “It would mean all the hard work has paid off, but I will not throw a tantrum and cry and be depressed and be immature if I don’t win, because the fact that I am in the top three is a huge blessing.”
Josh started off by teaming up with coach Usher to sing Police’s “Every Breath You Take.” Rather than sing his audition tune, Kaufman picked Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” Weeks ago, Josh sang the hit in the battle rounds against Delvin Choice and lost. That’s when Usher stole him away.
Kaufman gave it his all for his last number, Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.” With a backdrop of candles and pyrotechnics, he was so caught up in the moment he threw the microphone stand on the ground.
He told “Extra,” “This whole journey has been worth it no matter what, but the sacrifices I’ve had to make being away from my family and the sacrifices they have had to make without me being there… it would make it so worth it to come out on top. It would obviously all be worthwhile.”
Usher weighed in too, saying, “The only thing left now is to win ‘The Voice’ and start making his album. That is what I would like to see happen. I think he deserves to be ‘The Voice’s’ voice… year after year it has been Blake and Adam, we’ve gotta change that. He’s changing that.”
Jake made another go at his audition song, Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” followed by Richard Marks’ “Right Here Waiting” and a duet with coach Blake Shelton of Hank Williams Jr.’s “A Country Boy Can Survive.”
Why should fans vote for Jake? Blake knows! He joked, “People who don’t vote for Jake will probably never get laid again. If you don’t vote for Jake, you probably don’t have any friends. If you don’t vote for Jake, you probably have a unibrow. People who don’t vote for Jake probably eat their own boogers. You don’t want to be in that group. Vote for Jake!”
"Extra's" Terri Seymour was with "The Voice" coaches after the show getting their take on the upcoming finale.
