New Details: James Gandolfini’s Teenage Son Found Him, Called for Help
As “Sopranos” fans everywhere mourn the loss of James Gandolfini, new details have surfaced about what happened the night he died in a Rome hotel while vacationing with son Michael.
According to NBC News, the 13-year-old found his father on the bathroom floor of their room at Hotel Boscolo. The Emmy winner was alive but in distress as Michael called for help. Employees tried to revive the actor as they waited for emergency services to arrive.
Gandolfini, 51, was reportedly alive as he was rushed to the Policlinico Umberto I hospital just three minutes away, where they were unable to revive him.

Dr. Claudio Modini told the Associated Press that an autopsy would be performed with 24-hours. Splash says his body has been taken to the municipal morgue in Rome.
Father and son were vacationing in Rome leading up to Gandolfini's appearance with actress Marissa Tomei at the Taormina Film Festival on Saturday in Sicily, where Gandolfini was to receive an award at the closing ceremony. The festival is now planning to pay homage to the star.

Gandolfini is survived by his son, wife Deborah, and 9-month-old daughter, Liliana.
