Martin Short Graciously Reacts to Kathie Lee's Gaffe About Late Wife
Actor Martin Short realizes “people make mistakes.”
In responding to an interview he did Wednesday with “Today” show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb -- in which Gifford mistakenly asked about Short's now deceased wife – the funnyman told E! Online, “On live television, people make mistakes. There's no ill will intended."
While on the “Today” show, Gifford commented “he and [wife] Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business” and then asked, “How many years now for you guys?"
Despite the fact Nancy died in 2010 of ovarian cancer, Martin graciously answered Gifford's questions and did not correct her on-air.
Learning of her faux pas, Kathie Lee later tweeted, "I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful."
Martin clearly accepted Gifford's apology, telling E!, "It's nice to aspire to be kind of elegant."
Short stars as one of the animated characters in the upcoming “Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted,” in theaters June 8.
