Extremists Plan to Disrupt Edwards Funeral
The Westboro Baptist Church, known for anti-homosexual protests that have included noisy protests at military funerals, has now targeted the memorial service for Elizabeth Edwards for their next unfortunate action.
The funeral will take place in Raleigh, N.C., at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 11.
According to the church's website, no reason is given as to why they are protesting at Edwards funeral, but the group regularly disrupts unrelated funerals -- for which they have been successfully sued.
The Edenton Street United Methodist Church told the Washington Post it is aware of the planned protest, and senior staff will meet to decide how to address the matter.
Services for Edwards, who died Tuesday from cancer, will begin at 1:00 pm and are open to the public.
