Nurse Jada

Jada Pinkett-Smith was destined to star as a single mom and nurse in "Hawthorne" -- just ask her mother!
"My mother is an RN and she also raised me as a single parent," Jada tells "Extra." But Smith admits that she could never have stepped into her mother's nursing shoes in real life. "Absolutely not, because I'm not good with blood," says Jada, adding, "She knows how queasy I get."
Smith is working with "Extra" Lifechanger Dr. Armand Dorian to learn the medical know-how needed to portray an RN. "I love Dr. Dorian... he's been an extreme help on the show."
Jada is real-life mom to kids Willow, Jaden and stepson Trey, but admits that when the kids need medical attention, she lets her medically trained mom step in! "Thank goodness she is with me most of the time, because both Will and I have had some emergencies at the house and I don't think he and I did that well," Smith says.
"Hawthorne" premieres tonight on TNT.
