Rourke Has 'Wrestler' Spirit
Mickey Rourke took home the award for Best Actor at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday -- and thanked his fans, co-stars and his late dog in a profanity-ridden speech!
"The Wrestler" star won the award for his portrayal of a washed-up wrestler in the critically acclaimed film -- and dedicated his award to his beloved pup Loki, who passed away last week. "I've just gotten thousands of letters from strangers and people that know me about my dog that died six days ago, Loki. This is for you, baby," said the actor. "The Wrestler" was the big winner of the evening, taking home awards for Best Feature and Best Cinematography.
"Milk," the inspirational true story about SF Supervisor Harvey Milk, also took home multiple awards, for Best Supporting Actor James Franco and Best First Screenplay, by writer Dustin Lance Black.
"Frozen River" star Melissa Leo took home the award for Best Actress, while Penélope Cruz took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her work in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." Both women are up for the same awards in the Oscar race, which ends this evening at the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
