'Twilight' Puts Bite on Competition

With the help of a massive, Twi-hard female fan base, the vamp flick "Twilight" exceeded box office expectations by sucking in $70.6 million in its opening weekend.
The film, adapted from the wildly popular book franchise, was anticipated to gross $60 million at best during its opening weekend, but word of mouth and fans seeing the movie multiple times helped ticket sales go through the roof. "It turned out they really liked the movie," Summit Entertainment distribution president Richie Fay told E! Online of the fans.
The film's stars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, were catapulted into the spotlight after being cast as the heroine and the vampire with whom she falls helplessly in love. Check out pictures of Kristen, Rob and the rest of the cast from "Twilight's" L.A. premiere!
