Jason Bateman & Laura Linney Tease 'A Whole Other Level of Danger' in ‘Ozark’ Season 2
Not much is known about “Ozark” Season 2, but the new issue of emmy magazine is giving fans a few hints about what's in store.
For those unfamiliar, the dark Netflix show centers on Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney), who are in over their heads with the cartel, and forced to move from Chicago to the Lake of the Ozark to launder millions. Once they move to Missouri they run into even more problems involving two local crime families.
In a behind-the-scenes video for the magazine shoot, Bateman says that this season, the "challenges for the Byrde family certainly escalate." After all, last year they laundered $8 million, this season it's $50 million!
“We are trying to build a casino to help facilitate that money laundering, and so we've got to deal with bureaucrats and the mob… people are wearing ties instead of cowboy hats this year,” he said.
It seems they are turning to politicians for help, and emmy magazine describes a scene in which Marty and Wendy are dancing in a ballroom after crashing a Kansas City political fundraiser. The two are there in hopes of befriending a heavyweight politician in order to help them with the casino.
Linney described next season as, “A bit like a Chinese puzzle,” adding, “They've reached one level of safety, and a whole other level of danger opens up to them.”
Fans might want to prepare for the show to go darker than ever. Showrunner and Head Writer Chris Mundy said, “This year, there's something we might have Marty and Wendy do that — although it seems small in comparison to some of the other crazy things — we're arguing over whether people would forgive them.”
“Ozark” Season 2 launches on Netflix in the fall, and emmy magazine hits newsstands May 8.
