Miley Cyrus Wants 'Long Engagement’
Teen star Miley Cyrus had no clue that boyfriend Liam Hemsworth was going to pop the question at their California home. It was a “complete surprise,” she revealed to Marie Claire.
The “Hunger Games” star didn't ask Billy Ray for her hand in marriage, either. Miley told the mag her parents were also caught off guard by the proposal.
The 19-year-old knows there are skeptics out there who think she's too young, but she doesn't care. “Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with. I don't really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we've made to each other. And we want to have a long engagement.”
She added, “Liam and I have a really good relationship… neither of us is super-jealous. We know each other and would never do anything to hurt each other.”
The “Hannah Montana” star shows off her sparkler on the cover of Marie Claire's September issue. “I had no input,” she revealed. “We'd been kind of talking about getting engaged… I saw it online at one point and thought it was really pretty… I just love that it's old and has a story. And I'm happy because it doesn't look like anything else I wear.”
The ring, estimated to be worth $100,000, features a large diamond in an 18-karat gold band, with carved diamond floral motifs in an Art Nouveau pattern. The Neil Lane ring's history is in the center stone. It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890.
The September issue of Marie Claire hits newsstands Aug. 14.
