'Finding Dory' Swims, 'Independence Day' Sinks at the Box Office
Variety reports "Finding Dory" is continuing its winning streak at the U.S. box office, and is expected to net another $75 million this weekend. The sequel to "Finding Nemo" should wrap up the weekend with $289 million in gross receipts after just 10 days in release.
Meanwhile, director Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day: Resurgence" is fighting the good fight and losing, projected to make only about $43 million for the frame. The film, which cost $165 million to make, is going to have to look to overseas ticket sales to recoup.
A big winner of the week is the Blake Lively flick "The Shallows," a shark adventure that will sink its teeth into about $17 million in its opening weekend, or exactly how much it cost to make.
