Catherine Zeta-Jones Would Brave the Freezing Cold for Oprah
Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is getting dramatic make under for her newest role as Griselda Blanco, the real-life queen of the drug kingpins in “Cocaine Godmother.”
Along with discussing the Lifetime movie, “Extra's” Renee Bargh sat down with Catherine, who revealed how she really feels about Oprah Winfrey.
Oprah is still on the minds of many in Hollywood after her invigorating speech at the Golden Globes. If Oprah were to run for office, would Catherine be on board? She answered, “She has an empathy that's been lost in politicians — not just in America, but in an international level.”
“I would sit on an ice cube for the rest of my life to listen to Oprah,” Zeta-Jones added.
Catherine listened to herself while playing Blanco, a “liberating” role she admits is not typical for her. She shared, “It's not a role one would think, 'This is so written for Catherine Zeta-Jones. I can't think of anything she'd be more suited for.' And that was the challenge and the joy of it.”
She went on to say, “Look, I played roles where literally I open the script and the first line of the script is 'drop-dead gorgeous bombshell.' And I just go, 'Oh, God, that's at least two hours in hair and makeup.'”
When asked if her husband Michael Douglas was scared of her when she was in character as the Cocaine Godmother, Catherine replied, “My husband gave me a note, and my husband never gives me notes and I never give him notes. He went, 'Just remember, you don't have to do a lot. You are at your most terrifying when you do nothing.'"

Catherine knows her world is very different from Blanco's, pointing out, “We didn't even get to the fact that she had a dog named Hitler.”
The Oscar winner recently took time off from her promotion tour to spend the holidays with her family all over the world. She commented, “India, Cambodia, Thailand — it was a real bucket list... And I love traveling with my kids and showing them a bigger world out there.”
