Jim Parsons Dishes on ‘A Kid Like Jake,’ Plus: The Future of ‘Big Bang Theory’
Jim Parsons premiered his first film at Sundance, which is “a dream come true” for him!
Parsons produced and stars in “A Kid Like Jake,” also starring Claire Danes, Octavia Spencer, and Priyanka Chopra.
He told “Extra's” Jerry Penacoli, “So many movies you watched growing up had their first premiere at Sundance, they were found at Sundance. I remember distinctly the first time I ever watched 'Sex, Lies, and Videotape,' which really was a major relationship between this festival and that… it seems impossible in so many ways, even though you see it happening... in that regard, I have been really shocked to be here at some level, but it's really, special.”
Of his “really specific, but relatable story,” Parsons shared, “It was originally a stage production, it was brought to us 5 years ago and we really wanted to make it. It took a long time.”
The film centers around a 4-year-old who is getting ready to go to kindergarten. Jim and Claire are playing a couple trying to navigate their roles as parents to a young son who prefers Cinderella to G.I. Joe, which causes a rift between them, one that forces them to confront their own concerns about what's best for their child, and each other.
He commented, “In so many ways this could be about anything. It's really just about these two parents trying to raise their child and do right by them.”
On the small screen, Jim is known for playing Sheldon Cooper on the “Big Bang Theory,” which is in its eleventh season. Parsons set the record straight on whether the show is nearing an end, saying, “I don't know... We are on 11, we are all signed on through 12."
He went on, “It has been for me at least the most fun season, really since season 1… we have been really enjoying each other this year. I am sure it could end at 12, but if this jovial atmosphere keeps on, I could see people going, 'How could we leave?'”
