On Monday, Jackman posted a selfie with a bandage on his nose, saying, "Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent body checks and amazing doctors, all is well. Looks worse with the dressing on than off. I swear! #wearsunscreen.”
Last year, he emphasized the importance of wearing sunscreen. “An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups,” he wrote.
Over the years, Jackman has documented his cancer scares on social media. In 2013, he revealed his cancer diagnosis for the first time. He wrote, "Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basal cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
In an interview with People magazine in 2015, Jackman shared, “It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word 'cancer.' Being an Australian it's a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it. I go every three months for check-ups. It's the new normal for me. My doctor says I'll likely have more, and if that's your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky.”
