View StoryJerry is bringing his stand-up comedy back to where it all began for him, shooting his special at The Comic Strip, the New York club that give him his start in the '70s. As for why he decided to go back, Seinfeld said, “I thought it would be nice for young comedians to know, 'Where did all this start?' I think of all my favorite comedians I would love if they had made a special about the very beginning of how they started it.”
The comedians who have influenced Seinfeld include, “Bill Cosby. George Carlin. Jay Leno.” Jerry also had the opportunity to shoot a very special “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” with comedy legend Jerry Lewis before he died, reflecting, “He was great. I think it was his last interview… I watched him when I was a little kid. And his name was Jerry. And I thought.. 'Maybe I could be like that 'cause I'm Jerry, too.'”
The 63-year-old admitted he never saw success coming in the form of a hit show like “Seinfeld,” saying, “My dream was to be an opening act for Tina Turner.”
At one point, Jerry even said he just wanted to make enough to be able to buy a loaf of bread every week. He commented, “I thought: A loaf of bread a week, I could make it.” Now, he tops the Forbes list of highest-paid comedians, joking, “I have them make my own bread.”
The father of three is still very down-to-earth, not letting summer yachting with David Geffen faze him. Jerry shared, “I don't like rich-people stuff. I really still love the ordinary.”
