Michelle Williams Talks ‘The Masked Singer,’ Plus: Her Message for Gabrielle Union After ‘AGT’ Exit
“The Masked Singer” fans just found out that Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child fame was the Butterfly!
On Thursday, Michelle joined “Extra's” morning meeting, and gushed over her time on the show.
“Oh, it was awesome,” she said. “One of the best things I've ever done… probably my top five things I've ever done in my life.”
Why the butterfly? “If you're growing, you should be evolving into a better person, and that's what I am going through right now.” She also has a 20-year-old butterfly tattoo, sharing that it's in a private place, saying, “It's down... it's down there,” pointing toward her lower body.
Michelle also reflected on performing in the Super Bowl with Destiny's Child a few years ago, and how that compared to “The Masked Singer.”
She explained, “Super Bowl was fun, but you're talking about a lot of pressure, a lot of eyes, but with 'The Masked Singer,' no one knew who I was and that gave me such joy… to be anonymous, and go out there, sing your heart out, and do your thing.”
When asked if she had any advice for Jennifer Lopez, who will be performing at the Super Bowl this year alongside Shakira, Michelle said, “Just go out there and do your thing. She don't need my advice, she's fierce. I love everything about her… I am looking forward to it all.”
In other news, there are rumors Michelle could be replacing Gabrielle Union or Julianne Hough on “America's Got Talent,” but Williams insisted, “That's a huuuuuuugggeeee rumor and that's literally the first I'm hearing of it.”
The nature of Gabrielle's exit has been the subject of much speculation. It has been reported that Union's contract was not renewed after she complained about what is being described as a “toxic culture” inside the NBC show. The network told “Extra” that the show “has a long history of inclusivity and diversity.” They added, “NBC and the producers take any issues on set seriously.”
Michelle showed her support for Gabrielle, saying, “You know, when you have a platform, you know, like that, and if you know that there has been something that's been going on… I think you definitely speak out about it. You know there are definitely risks involved when you speak up, but the rewards are so much greater than the risks… She's speaking up for millions of people.”
Williams added, “I want to tell Gabrielle personally, 'I loved every hairstyle, okay?'”
Watch “The Masked Singer” Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
