Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw Talks Future of Baseball After COVID-19, Plus: How He’s Giving Back
“Extra's” Billy Bush chatted with Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen via Zoom about the future of baseball, life in quarantine, and how they are giving back.
Clayton and Ellen are in lockdown in Dallas with their three kids, but the L.A. Dodgers pitcher shared some hopeful news for baseball fans.
“Everybody is getting a little more cautiously optimistic that there will be some type of season,” he said. “Obviously probably not have fans in the stands to begin with, and obviously not starting in our home stadium in California or really anybody in their home stadium.” He added, “I'm optimistic by June, July, August, somewhere in there, there may be some baseball games, which will be really fun.”
He said it was “weird” to not be playing baseball right now, but he's staying busy with his family.
“My youngest son is three months now, so I have been home every day for that, which is really cool, and wouldn't have happened otherwise. You feel like a fish out of water being home when you're not supposed to be.”
Ellen is happy to have him around to help, saying, “We're getting so spoiled, really having an extra set of hands to adjust to having three kids has been amazing.” She added, “He is like the camp counselor of our kids.”
Now the couple is helping others, launching a two-week campaign to raise money to feed those affected by COVID-19 through their nonprofit Kershaw's Challenge. Clayton said, “Ellen and I are matching any donation we get and just raising some good money for some meals.”
