Stephen Colbert to Host 2017 Emmy Awards
Stephen Colbert has been tapped to host the 69th Annual Emmy Awards at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater in September. This will be the first time the host of “The Late Show” takes the reins of the awards show.
A nine-time Emmy-winner himself, Colbert didn't waste any time with the political jokes, saying, “This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period. Both in person and around the globe.” He was poking fun at comments made by President Trump's White House press secretary Sean Spicer regarding attendance figures for last week's inauguration.
CBS Entertainment Executive Vice President Jack Sussman announced yesterday that the late-night talker and comedian would be taking over emcee duties at this year's show, saying, “We're excited to kick off the new season and celebrate the top achievements in television with Stephen Colbert as host of the Primetime Emmys.”
He continued, “Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we've seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. We look forward to honoring television's best while entertaining audiences with the creative energy and sharp comedy of Stephen Colbert.”
The Emmys will air live Sunday, September 17, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
