Lola Albright, Glamorous 'Peter Gunn' Actress, Dead at 92
Lola Albright, best known as the husky-voiced bombshell who acted and often sang on the '50s series "Peter Gunn," died Thursday in Toluca Lake, California, at 92, THR reports.
A friend, Eric Anderson, told the Akron Beacon Journal Albright, an Akron native, "went very peacefully. She died at 7:20 a.m. of natural causes. We loved her so much."
Along with her "Peter Gunn" role from 1958-1961, Albright made many early-TV appearances in largely dramatic roles. Her big break in film was an attention-grabbing part in the 1949 boxing drama "Champion," for which Kirk Douglas was nominated for an Oscar. She later appeared in the Elvis Presley movie "Kid Galahad" (1962) and won an acting award at the Berlinale for playing a suicidal mother in the satirical film "Lord Love a Duck" (1966).
Albright, who also recorded romantic albums, continued making guest appearances on TV until her final appearance, on "Airwolf" in 1984.
