‘Eight is Enough’ Dad Dick Van Patten Dies at 86
Actor Dick Van Patten, best known for playing “Eight Is Enough” patriarch Tom Bradford, died Tuesday morning at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California of complications from diabetes, according to reports. He was 86.
“I am sorry to report this sad news,” his rep said in a statement released to the media Tuesday.
Van Patten gained fame starring in the family-friendly television show “Eight Is Enough” from 1977-81, but also appeared over 27 times on Broadway, and in other television shows including “The New Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Happy Days” “The Love Boat,” and most recently “Arrested Development” and “Hot in Cleveland” in 2011 with Betty White.
He also had roles in three Mel Brooks films; “Space Balls,” “High Anxiety” and “Robin Hood, Men in Tights.”
Van Patten leaves his wife of 62 years, actress Pat Van Patten, and the couple's three sons; Nels, Jimmy, and Vincent.
