Al Pacino as Coach Joe Paterno: First Peek
HBO has released the first image of legendary actor Al Pacino in character as football coach Joe Paterno in the upcoming, still untitled Barry Levinson-directed film.
Variety reports the film centers on Paterno's reaction to the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal, which tainted his legacy after a career in which Paterno became the coach with the most wins in college football history.
Paterno died two months after the scandal broke, following his termination by Penn State.
The film also stars Riley Keough as Sara Ganim, the young journalist who first reported on the sex scandal, and who went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for her work.
The Paterno project is Pacino's fourth HBO project, after "Angels in America" (2003), "You Don't Know Jack" (2010) and "Phil Spector" (2013).
