Taye Diggs Reacts to Nick Cordero’s Passing, Plus: His Life Under Quarantine
“All American” star Taye Diggs, 49, is “doing well” during quarantine.
“Extra's” Nate Burleson spoke with Diggs, who is thinking of those struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, “I know a lot of folks who are out there struggling, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them.”
Taye is also sending prayers to Amanda Kloots, who just lost her husband, Broadway star Nick Cordero, to COVID-19 complications. Nick's death “hit close to home” for Taye since they had similar starts in the theater. He commented, “It just reminded me that regardless of how good we have it… how blessed we are, it touches you. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and that just goes to show... you have to stay in the moment and hug the people that are close to you — love them.”
Diggs is home with his 10-year-old son, Walker, who he co-parents with ex-wife Idina Menzel, during the pandemic. He shared, “Some really great experiences have come out of me being able to spend so much time with my kid… We wait until it's pitch-black and we have these things called night swims… and we just talk to each other. We actually have these really intimate, deep conversations that we probably would not otherwise have had.”
Taye is engaging in serious conversations with Walker about what is going on in our country. He pointed out, “I think it's been really great that my son feels comfortable enough to ask these important questions, and we're just being there to support his comfort level and answer the questions that he's asking.”
Diggs is helping other families stay busy in quarantine, too. He partnered with Quaker Chewy for a program called Camp Chewy, which runs through July 21. Taye told Nate, “We're reconfiguring what summer camp is and bringing all those ideas home to these families so they can take part in it while they are spending time with each other.”
He added, “You can go to this website — NoCampNoProblem.com — to enter this sweepstakes and enter to win some cool prizes, but more importantly get new ideas on how to keep summer fun at home with the family.”
In professional news, Diggs' fans are happy that The CW picked up “All American” for a third season. He dished, “We got a lot more viewers… We're even more excited to get back to the third season and, in light of Black Lives Matter, we're going to continue to hit these serious subject matters with the same intensity, so we're hyped.”
