Adele Drops F-Bomb, Asks to Restart George Michael Grammys Tribute
Adele is making headlines for her tribute to George Michael at the Grammy Awards!
At the beginning of her rendition of his song “Fastlove,” she appeared to be struggling with technical difficulties. Adele dropped an F-bomb before stopping the performance, saying, "I can't do it again like last year. I'm sorry for swearing. I can't mess this up for him.”
After her performance, she turned her face away from the crowd to wipe away her tears. Adele received a standing ovation from the big names in the room, including Carrie Underwood, John Legend and Jennifer Lopez.
Later in the evening, Adele acknowledged the performance while taking home the award for Song of the Year. She told the audience, "I really do apologize for swearing. George Michael, I love him. He means a lot to me, so I'm really sorry if I offended anyone anywhere."
Last year, Adele faced technical problems while performing her song “All I Ask.” In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres after that performance, she revealed, "Soundcheck was great. Went really well. I was really excited, and then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings, which is what the guitar noise was. Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn't him. We're on great terms. And then it kind of put the whole thing off, really.” Watch.
Despite the technical issues last night, Adele was able to end the night in fashion, sweeping all the awards she was nominated for, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year. During her speeches, she gave a shout-out to "husband" Simon Konecki, which further hints that they are secretly married. She gushed about her idol Beyoncé, who was also a nominee, leaving Queen Bey teary-eyed. Adele said, "I adore you and I want you to be my mommy."
Following the show, Adele opened up about restarting her tribute, telling reporters in the press room, "I was devastated by that, and my rehearsal — I did have a shaky rehearsal today. But I have been working very hard on this tribute for him, every day.”
